Theme
Designing an Inclusive and Sustainable Future
The theme of Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” embodies ASEAN’s vision of shared progress—ensuring that no one is left behind. This vision is echoed in the emphasis on “resilience” and “equality” in each of the proposed agenda. Resilience highlights the importance of building sustainable societies and communities, while equality underscores the commitment to inclusivity for all.
In a region as diverse as ASEAN, with its wide range of nationalities, religions, and cultures, the pursuit of an inclusive community where everyone can live with dignity and a sense of security is a vital and ongoing goal. At the same time, ASEAN must tackle pressing challenges such as climate change, poverty, and inequality. These priorities not only reflect the region’s ambitions but also resonate strongly with Japan, which shares deep, longstanding ties with ASEAN and is equally committed to building a resilient and inclusive future.
Topics
Disaster Management
As climate change continues to intensify, communities around the world face increasing risks from natural disasters such as floods, typhoons, droughts, and earthquakes. These events threaten not only lives and livelihoods but also long-term development and stability. In response, the Disaster Management Subcommittee has adopted the theme:
"How can we strengthen community resilience against the impacts of climate change and natural disasters?"
This subcommittee aims to encourage participants to think critically about how communities can better prepare for, respond to, and recover from environmental shocks. The program will include lectures by experts from Japan and ASEAN, along with visits to organizations and local areas involved in disaster prevention and climate adaptation. Participants will explore practical solutions, share diverse perspectives, and work together to envision a more resilient future for all.

Education
Education plays a vital role in shaping the future, yet many young people around the world still face barriers to quality learning opportunities. Rapid technological change, shifting social needs, and growing global challenges demand that education systems evolve to meet new realities. In response, the Education Subcommittee has adopted the theme:
"How can we redesign education systems to equally empower future generations in a changing world?"
This subcommittee invites participants to reflect on how education can be made more inclusive, adaptable, and forward-looking. Through lectures by educators and policymakers from Japan and ASEAN, as well as visits to innovative educational institutions, participants will explore diverse approaches to learning. The program encourages critical discussion and creative thinking toward building educational systems that prepare all young people to thrive in an uncertain future.
